Ring in the New Year!

It's that time of year again.  The time when we say farewell to one year and welcome the next.  We remember both the good and bad of the past and look forward to what the future has to bring.  New Year's resolutions are made (and sometimes kept) and we hope for fresh and exciting changes in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones.  We think of what we'd like to accomplish in the coming year and what we'd like to change about ourselves and our surroundings.  It's a time of hope, love, dreams, and determination, and indeed a wonderful time of the year.

Light Through The Snow - Item #946

It's already November and time to start thinking about the holidays!  I thought this would be the perfect picture to help get everyone in a festive mood!  I shot this photograph in Boston Commons as my husband and I were strolling around the park one afternoon.  It had just started to snow which seemed to create a beautiful and serene hush throughout the park.  Even though it sounds rather cliche, I felt as though I was a princess walking through a winter wonderland.

This photograph is simple yet complex at the same time and allows a wide range of emotions to stir within me.  At times when I look at this photo I get a wonderful sense of peace and calm just like I felt during my walk that day.  It reminds me of Christmas mornings as a child when I awoke to find the ground covered with a delicate blanket of snow.  At other times this image can seem rather foreboding and eerie as though I have walked into a foreign world where I am completely and utterly alone.

This is a favorite of mine and also a favorite of many of my fans!  It always gets attention at art shows and often times people do a double take because there is just something about it that catches their eye.
Let me know what it is about 'Light Through The Snow' that catches your eye and what emotions it stirs within you!  I would love to hear your thoughts :-)

Helchgam's Swamp - Item #1117

It's almost Halloween and I thought this would be the perfect picture to discuss during this spooky time of year!  I shot this photograph in July during one of my walks through the Wildwood Park in Harrisburg, PA.  My attention was immediately grabbed by the tree which is the focal point of this photo.  It had such a unique and sinister quality to it which I found quite interesting.  I snapped a few photographs (OK a bunch) but when I got home and began to process the shots from that day, the algae and surrounding trees were too bright.  It did not have the eerie quality I had envisioned.  Not wanting to give up that easily, I played around with the brightness, contrast, and color saturation, and voila!  'Helchgam's Swamp' was born.

The stillness and foreboding qualities of this photograph are intense, and I can't help but imagine that there is a horrible presence lurking somewhere in the waters beneath the still and protective covering of the algae.  The saying 'the calm before the storm' comes to mind, and I feel like I'm just waiting for that inevitable moment when the demon bursts forth from the depths of the swamp and wreaks havoc on everything and anything in its path.

'Helchgam's Swamp' has been featured in two Etsy treasuries!  Remember that you can get 10% off your purchase in my Etsy by entering the coupon code DISCOUNT10 during checkout :-)

The wonderful thing about art is that it speaks differently to everyone.  Each person will get their own images and feelings when looking at a piece of art work.  Photography is no different!  I've told you how this piece speaks to me, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!  Tell me what you see when you look into 'Helchgam's Swamp'.
